Redefining Your Purpose
“What am I going to do with my life? I feel like my life is meaningless. I am going through the motions, working day in and day out, but, to what end? What difference am I really making? I need a purpose.”
This thought pattern seemed to be a reoccurring trend in my life for years. After only a short time of starting something new, the excitement always seemed to wear off and I found myself working without purpose. This perception, of a lack of purpose, really wore on me. It was like a dark cloud that left me confused. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, and definitely didn’t feel like I was making a ‘difference’.
During this time, I launched my real estate career and was on a fast track to success. I had joined a rock star team and we were well on our way to the top. The thrill of this new adventure brought me a sense of purpose and excitement, but it was short lived. After just a few short years, a routine kicked in, and I was left feeling meaningless once more. I was making great money, but wanted purpose. Unbenounced to me, it was my very definition of purpose that was causing me this cycle of misery.
When we think of purpose, we think: “We wake up every morning feeling inspired, with a deep knowing of who we are and the impact we are making on the world.” This idea of purpose leaves us thinking we have to be doing something BIG in order to feel fulfilled. The truth is, we need to change our definition! Freedom is found when we can let go of this unrealistic idea of what purpose is and recognize there is purpose in everything that we do.
No matter what you are doing, you are helping this world in someway. When we can get in touch with this and look at how much value we bring to this world in the little ways, we can then reignite our joy and purpose. Redefining purpose will allow you to find fulfillment again! Check out this week’s video as I share a few ideas on how you can do just that!
